The Radisson Blu Resort in Sharjah is a high quality resort hotel located on its private beach close to the centre of Sharjah and a twenty minute taxi ride from Dubai when the traffic is quiet. It is built around a light and airy central atrium and has a won a number of prestigious international awards. There is a wide choice of rooms from the Cabana Rooms around the pool area to luxury suites in the main hotel building. There are a variety of restaurants inside the main building and outside by the pool and beach area although no bars serve alcoholic drinks due to Sharjah's strict ban on alcohol. There are two adult and two children's pools and a wide sandy beach with sunbeds and parasols. For sports there are two well equipped gyms with one being for ladies only, two floodlit tennis courts and there is a range of massages and treatments available from the Bay Club. There are activities for children and as well as having two dedicated pools they also have organised activities arranged by the pool and on the beach. In addition all the food outlets offer children's menus and highchairs. Meetings, conferences and weddings can be arranged from a choice of nine different function rooms and for guests wishing to stay in touch there is complimentary wireless broadband internet access in all rooms and public areas.

Location Description

The Radisson SAS Resort is within easy reach of both Dubai and Sharjah International Airports. The centre of Sharjah is within a five to ten minute taxi ride and the Deira area of Dubai is twenty minutes away without traffic although it can take a lot longer with traffic. Sharjah has a range of traditional and modern shopping facilities including a number of shopping malls and old Souks. There is also a local market and shops within walking distance. The hotel is located in extensive grounds with its own private bay with a wide sandy beach. Traffic conditions between Sharjah and Dubai during peak times can cause substantial delays so guests wishing to venture into Dubai should time their journeys with the advice of concierge.

Layout Description

The hotel is laid out in one main building with a central atrium style design with a large glass wall running the full height of the building. There is a corridor to the rooms overlooking the central lobby on each floor where reception, the business centre, concierge, tour desk, restaurants and shops are located. There are a further twenty separate Cabana Rooms which are built around the large pool area and are accessed via the Bay Club behind reception. The pool is located at the rear of the hotel and past the pool are the beach and a grassed sunbathing area.

The lobby is a large and airy atrium with a glass wall on one side reaching the full height of the building. The reception is located immediately opposite the entrance with the concierge desk, tour desk and gentleman's barber on the left. The business centre, shops, restaurants and coffee shop are to the right of reception and there is comfortable seating with settees and armchairs for twenty eight guests in front of the reception desk.

There is a range of boutiques and shops in the hotel Souk and the area behind reception offering newspapers, convenience items, Arabic perfumes, jewellery and gifts as well a gentlemen's barber. Shops are generally open 09.00 to 23.00. In addition, the City Centre Mall, the Sahara Centre as well as the Souk Al Arsah which is one of the oldest Souks in the UAE are located five to ten minutes away by taxi. There are further shopping opportunities in Dubai including the Gold Souk and the hotel operates a complimentary shuttle service to Dubai four times a day and the Sharjah Sahara Centre has its own complimentary shuttle on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

The majority of rooms have been refurbished and are all comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated. All room types with the exception of the Cabana Rooms which open on to the pool have sea views. The entry level rooms are Cabana Rooms which are located around the pool and are 24sqm. For guests requiring a little more space the Standard Rooms and Business Class Rooms are 39sqm. For those wanting additional room there are a number of different suites including the Arabian Suites which are spacious with large balconies, separate dining areas and kitchens. Connecting rooms are available on request.

The Cabana Rooms are for adults only and are accessed via the Bay Club Health Centre and are located around the pool. They have been recently renovated and are decorated in a modern style with tiled floors and are furnished with a small wall mounted satellite television, a large wardrobe, bedside table, separate table and two rattan armchairs. The bathroom is decorated with green and grey tiling and has white sanitary wear and comes with a shower but no bathtub.

The majority of Standard Rooms have been recently refurbished and are located in the main hotel building. They have the same amenities as the Cabana Rooms and are decorated with dark wood furniture and in a modern contemporary style and have balconies. Business Class Rooms are similar to the Standard Rooms with the same amenities but are corner rooms with entry via a small foyer into the bedroom which has a dressing room and bathroom leading off it. They are decorated with dark wood furniture, beige carpets and are styled in a modern contemporary style. The rooms come with either a king size or twin beds. The rooms have some additional amenities like a trouser press, kettle, bathrobe and slippers.

The Junior Suite is a one bedroom room that are located in the corners of the building. The suite comprises of a bedroom with two en-suite bathrooms and an entrance hallway. The room is decorated in a contemporary style with the bathrooms having beige coloured sanitary fittings with a combined bath and overhead shower. The suite benefits from being over 50% larger than the Business Class Rooms. The suite is decorated in the same contemporary style as the other room types and also benefits from a balcony.

The Arabian Suite is a one bedroom suite with the benefit of having a separate lounge and bedroom. Entry to the suite is via a small entrance corridor with both the bedroom and lounge leading off it. The lounge/dining room has a dining table for six persons and a feature chandelier as well as having a seating area with large screen Sony television. Off the lounge is a small kitchen with full cooking facilities. The bedroom has a king size bed and a seating area. Off the bedroom is the balcony with tables and chairs. The Arabian Suites are furnished with high quality fittings and are tastefully designed in a modern Arab style.

The Presidential Suite is the premier room type in the Radisson SAS Sharjah. It is over twice the size of the Arabian Suite and has the benefit of two en-suite bedrooms and a guest bathroom as well as the other facilities that are in the Arabian Suite like a full kitchen. The rooms are either carpeted, tiled or have parquet flooring and the suite is decorated with a soothing modern décor and have contemporary soft furniture. The suite also benefits from a large balcony with table and chairs and sun loungers.

The Radisson Sharjah Resort has six different restaurants and cafes. The main international restaurant and breakfast location is Café at the Falls which is located in the central atrium. There are two speciality restaurants; Shahzadeh is a Moroccan/Iranian and Canton is a Chinese. Also inside are the lobby lounge and a coffee shop. For pool and beach goers there is a separate beach and pool bar. Children are well catered for with special menus and high chairs available on request. In the Cafe at the Falls up to two children under six per family eat on a complimentary basis and additional children and aged six to twelve pay 50%.

Café at the Falls is the main international restaurant at the hotel and is located below the main lobby area in the central atrium. It is attractively designed to recreate an outdoor environment with trees, plants, a waterfall and pond stocked with koi carp. There are different themed buffets each night which are served to order from the central cooking station alongside the hot and cold buffet. There is also an a la carte menu to choose from.

Shahzadeh is located to the left of the lobby behind the Chillout Café. It serves a selection of kebabs, tangines and other Moroccan and Iranian specialities. Latitudes is a small beachside bar serving snacks and drinks until sunset. Latitudes is in the style of a typical beachside bar with a wooden building next to the beach with additional seating on the wooden deck almost directly on the beach.

There is a wide range of meeting, conference and banqueting facilities with flexible options. Rooms are available from small boardroom style meeting rooms to larger facilities able to cater for 400 guests. Flowers, entertainment and catering can be arranged and modern audio visual equipment is available in all rooms. Uniquely there is a separate venue for children's parties at Sails on the Waterfront on the ground floor which can cater for up to 100.

Cranley Comment

The wide private sandy beach is set in a bay at the back of the hotel with the additional feature of a grassed area and an area set aside for adults only. It is approached directly from the pool terrace and has ample loungers and sun umbrellas. There are two platforms set in the sea a short swim away from the edge of the beach and there are a variety of activities for adults as well as children including a playground with slides and a climbing frame.

The Radisson SAS Sharjah has two adult and two children’s pools located next to each other. The main pool and one of the children’s pools are set in front of the Cabanas Rooms with the Infinity Pool facing the beach. The Adult Pool is located next to the Cabana Rooms and is surrounded by paved stones and a number of palm trees on the terrace. It is located right next to the other two pools and has views of the ocean. There are the usual array of amenities but the pool area benefits from good quality wood sun loungers.

The Infinity Pool is a large freeform pool that is situated between the Main Pool and the Children’s Pool. As well as the infinity end it has a small feature of an island in the middle of the pool with a palm tree and it overlooks the beach. The pool shares all the same amenities as the other pools.

The children’s Pool is located on the pool terrace next to the Infinity Pool. It is designed for toddler aged children and has the benefit of a canvas canopy to protect children from the sun all year round. The pools location means adults can sit around the infinity pool whilst also overseeing their children in the infinity pool.

The gym and spa are within the Bay Club and are well equipped with a good range of exercise and relaxation options. Private training can also be provided at the guests request for an additional charge. One of the features of the hotel is that it has a separate gym for ladies only as well as a mixed sex gym. The gym is not available for users under 18 years of age.

Entrance to the tennis courts is via The Bay Club. Lessons can be arranged with qualified coaches for tennis, swimming and the gym at an additional charge. There is a separate entrance to the Bowling Centre behind reception and there are plans for the refurbishment and modernisation of the bowling centre including an American style diner.

Al Badia Golf Resort

Description

Opened in February 2005 the Al Badia Golf Course continues to receive rave reviews about its design, condition and playability. This is a Robert Trent Jones II designed course, neighbouring the banks of the Dubai Creek and is only 2 minutes from Dubai Airport. Al Badia provides a challenging round for seasoned golfers and assures recreational players a memorable experience. It features extensive use of water with 11 lakes and several smaller ponds with stunning views across the impressive Dubai Skyline.

Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

Description

Opened in 1993 and extensively re-modelled in 2005, the course is set next to Dubai Creek, close to the city centre and Dubai International Airport. The championship course was re-designed by Thomas Bjorn and is set in undulating fairways lined with palms, attractive water hazards and shrubbery that give it a tropical and secluded feel despite being close to the city centre. The complex also features a nine hole floodlit par-three course. The course was voted in November 2005 as one of the top 100 world courses to play. The course hosted the Dubai Desert Classic in 1999 and 2000.
