Coral Deira is a modern boutique style hotel in the heart of Deira, within walking distance of the Creek and the traditional souks. One of Dubai's original shopping malls is also close by. The hotel has 140 guest rooms and suites and there are three different dining options. The Indian restaurant Rasoi, has an extensive menu including a number of different Thali meals. The Al Nafoora restaurant offers both International and Arabian cuisine and there is a 24 hour coffee shop, Rumours, which offers snacks, light meals and non alcoholic drinks, since the hotel has a no alcohol policy. There is a rooftop terrace with a swimming pool and Jacuzzi and there is also a gym, as well as saunas, steam and massage rooms. There are four meeting and conference rooms on the mezzanine floor and a business centre on the ground floor. All bedrooms have a broadband internet connection and there is a wireless internet facility in public areas. Guest parking is available on-site.

Layout Description
The hotel has a short drive off the main road and the entrance leads into an open plan lobby, which is furnished with leather sofas and chairs. Rumours Café is located on the left in the lobby area, whilst the salon, gift shop and Business Centre are located directly off the main lobby lounge. A spiral staircase leads to the open mezzanine floor where the two main restaurants are located, as well as the conferencing and banqueting suites. The gym and health club facilities are situated on the top floor, with stairs up to the rooftop pool from there.

Entrance to the hotel is through a revolving glass door, with glass doors either side. The lifts are straight ahead, whilst the marble tiled floor leads to a marble topped, leather padded reception desk which is ahead and to the right. To the right beyond the Reception are the salon, Business Centre and the gift shop. The open plan lobby area is light and airy and includes a staircase that leads up to the mezzanine level. To the left of the hotel entrance is Rumours Café, whilst the lobby lounge area opposite the reception desk is furnished with several green leather chairs and sofas, set around large glass topped coffee tables.

The salon and gift shop are situated at one end of the lobby, just past the reception desk. The salon offers ladies' and men’s hairdressing and a range of beauty treatments. The gift shop provides guests with a small selection of essential items and gifts. The hotel is located in Al Muraqqabat Street close to the gold souks and ethnic shopping streets and the Al Ghurair City Centre Shopping Mall, which is the oldest in Dubai.

The hotel's corridors lead off the central lifts and are decorated in pastel colours in keeping with the style of the hotel, with framed old Arabic paintings and mahogany occasional tables, a collection of ornaments and trinkets from the region. The Rasoi Restaurant has an ornate entrance in carved Indian wood with an enormous wooden elephant. It is decorated in gold and red and is furnished in traditional Indian style with ethnic ornate lamps and a draped central Indian pagoda for intimate dining. At night the restaurant is candlelit and a band provides live Indian traditional music. The Rasoi offers a complete Indian menu, including a selection of different Thali dishes; vegetable, non vegetable, kebab and deluxe, as well as a special 'Kids Thali. It is located on mezzanine level, which can be reached from the staircase in the lobby.

Al Nafoora is a buffet style restaurant located on the mezzanine level, which can be reached either from the staircase in the lobby or via the lifts. It offers a different themed buffet every night of the week, with an International night, Asian, Steak, Oriental, Italian and Seafood from Saturday to Thursday and then a '12 to 12' brunch on Fridays. The breakfast buffet includes a live cooking station for omelettes. The restaurant is decorated in soft sandstone and earth colours with stone tiles and ornate mosaic flooring and it has a central water feature under a cupola. There is a raised seating area around the room, with pillars and Arabian style arches being the main features. There are wooden tables and padded wooden chairs and the main colour theme is blue and yellow.

Rumours Café is open 24 hours and is situated at the front of the hotel in the lobby area. It also has outside seating which is only open during the evening in the winter months. It has marble flooring and the ceiling has a central hand-painted fresco. The café is separated from the main lobby area by an elegant spiral staircase leading to the mezzanine floor. Rumours Café offers a range of sandwiches, salads, soups, light snacks, ice creams, desserts and hot and cold beverages, including a large range of juices. There are flat screen TVs on two walls, usually showing different things, but with the sound turned down, as the café has its own background music.

The hotel has four function rooms on the mezzanine level, two of which are suitable for banquets and other events for up to 160 people each. The two boardrooms will each comfortably accommodate 12 delegates for a meeting.

The conference/banqueting rooms are located on the mezzanine level, at opposite ends of a corridor, between which there is a reception area. The two rooms are identical in size, but have slightly different décor and furnishings, with different coloured carpets. Both have wood panelled walls with cream suede insets. They are decorated in cream with blue silk drapes and blinds. The rooms have floor to ceiling windows on one side and domed ceilings with crystal chandeliers. The two boardrooms are situated next to each other between the function rooms. They are simply furnished with a large table and chairs suitable for a dozen delegates. There is natural light at one end of each room and they have white painted walls and white ceilings. The ground floor Business Centre provides computer facilities for two guests at a time.

Although children are made welcome at the hotel, this is a city centre hotel which is largely occupied by adult leisure and business travellers. For children, there are high chairs in the restaurants and cots are provided free of charge. There is also a rooftop swimming pool, but children may only use it with adult supervision.

The Rooftop Pool is reached via 10 steps from the floor below, where there is a small reception desk by the lifts. The pool area has views over Dubai City and the surrounding area. There is a small raised terrace at one end in a shaded area with four tables and chairs and a bar at the opposite end with a telephone for guests to order food and refreshments from the room service menu. The brick paved terrace around the pool and Jacuzzi has room for about 10 sun loungers. The ladies and men’s changing rooms are each equipped with lockers, showers, sauna and steam room.

The gym is located on what is effectively the 8th floor, just below the rooftop swimming pool and has floor to ceiling windows, providing restricted views over Deira and Dubai city. It is mirrored, giving it a slightly larger feel. There is a small range of equipment and a personal trainer is available throughout opening hours for ‘one to one’ personal workouts or for an assessment. Guests have the use of a massage room with Chinese massage treatments available.

Description
Opened in 1993 and extensively re-modelled in 2005, the course is set next to Dubai Creek, close to the city centre and Dubai International Airport. The championship course was re-designed by Thomas Bjorn and is set in undulating fairways lined with palms, attractive water hazards and shrubbery that give it a tropical and secluded feel despite being close to the city centre. The complex also features a nine hole floodlit par-three course. The course was voted in November 2005 as one of the top 100 world courses to play and hosted the Dubai Desert Classic in 1999 and 2000.

Rooms & Bathrooms The hotel has no guest bedrooms or bathrooms that have been adapted to meet the needs of mobility impaired guests.
Restaurants & Catering All restaurants are accessible to mobility impaired guests, but Al Nafoora has some raised areas within the restaurant. There are no special provisions with large print menus for visually impaired guests. Special diet requests can be met but advance notice is preferred.
Visual & Hearing Aids There are no provisions for visually or hearing impaired guests.
Communal Areas The hotel entrance is off the main road and allows good wheelchair access. The lobby area, which includes Rumours Café, the Business Centre, shop and salon, is all on one level and readily accessible to mobility impaired guests. The lifts allow access to all other parts of the hotel, except the rooftop pool, which can only be reached by stairs from the 8th floor and some areas within the Al Nafoora restaurant which are raised. There are no disabled toilet facilities in the hotel.
Recreation Facilities Mobility impaired guests have access to the 8th floor gym via the lifts, but cannot easily reach the rooftop pool, which is only accessible by stairs from the 8th floor. The Business Centre and all meeting rooms can be reached using the lifts.
Staff Assistance All staff are trained to provide assistance to all guests.
Cranley Comment
The Coral Deira is not suitable for special needs guests as it does not have any adapted bedrooms. Elsewhere throughout the hotel, mobility impaired guests have ready access to all areas of the hotel, except part of the Al Nafoora restaurant and the rooftop swimming pool.

The hotel's staff are trained in environmental issues and encouraged to take initiatives to improve the environmental measures already in place. The Coral Group carry out audits to monitor the existing policies and staff participate in Dubai Wildlife and Beach cleaning incentives. Lights and air conditioning in guest bedrooms are operated by the same key card used to open the door.
