Golf
  Emirates Golf Club
Description
This was the first grass course in the Gulf region when it opened in 1988. The club features two championship courses; the Majlis and the Wadi. The Majlis was the original course and was designed by Florida based designer Karl Litten. The Wadi opened in 1996 and was re-designed in 2007 by Nick Faldo. Despite a number of new courses, it still ranks as one of the best in Dubai. It has hosted the Dubai Desert Classic fifteen times for the last six years in succession.

  Montgomerie Dubai
Description
Covering more than 265 acres of landscaped turf, gardens and lakes, this spectacular golf course provides the player with undulating "links land" style fairways which challenge and intrigue all levels of player. Placement of the drive to the generous fairways remains the cornerstone of any good round. The flat landing area of each fairway can be challenging to find, but a rewarding adventure. With 14 lakes and 81 bunkers, The Montgomerie Dubai, the first and only example of the association between golfing great Colin Montgomerie and Desmond Muirhead, adds a distinctive variety to the golfing landscape of the region.

One of the signature holes is the par 5 fourth, dubbed the Snake hole for its saddleback fairway which doglegs towards the green, with 2 bunkers behind forming the eyes of the snake. Further on, the par 5 ninth, with water down the left, is a tough finish to the opening half. The par 3 thirteenth, a hole designed in the shape of the UAE, boasts a 360 degree teeing area around an island fairway and green, allowing for a completely different golf hole to be played every time. However, it is the par 5 eighteenth that offers a more classic test. At 656 yards it is a monster and, with water protecting the front of the green, it defies even the best player to hit the green in two.

  The Els Club
Description
The Els Club is located in the heart of Dubai Sports City which is an area currently undergoing heavy construction of sports facilities and residential accommodation. Sports City is located about 12 kms inland from Jumeirah. The course is challenging for the best players in the world but at the same time enjoyable for all golfers. Stretching 7,538 yards from the tips, it features four sets of teeing areas to suit individual golfers. The course will offer players a challenging round accompanied by all the essential facilities that extend beyond the immaculate fairways and greens. Set on undulating slopes of native desert vegetation, it is a links style layout combining traditional classic design. Ernie Els perspective on the course is “I am delighted to welcome you to Dubai and The Els Club at Dubai Sports City. It is a very exciting development and I am proud of the golf course design we have created. Right from the start we knew we wanted to embrace the uniqueness of the amazing environment and incorporate the natural dunes and native plants. There is a genuine sense that you are playing golf in the desert. We call it a 'desert links.'”

The 550 square metre spa has dedicated ladies’ and gents’ treatment rooms and one twin treatment room, each equipped with large private rain showers. Next to the reception there is a communal lounge area, where healthy refreshments, champagne, and International meals presented in Japanese Bento boxes are served, which include Boost, Refuel, Energizer and Indulgent meals. The hotel's gym is also within the spa area which can be accessed 24 hours a day.
Special Needs
Communal Areas
Within the hotel property internal access to food and beverage outlets, shops and event facilities are level. To exit the property at the rear there are three steps. The hotel is presently looking at suitable measures to overcome this. The large gardens, beach and pool are connected via paved paths, bridges with steps over the meandering pool and ramps which overcome most access problems in the Mina Seyahi Resort areas.
Rooms & Bathrooms
There are two specially adapted Deluxe sea view guest rooms at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina. Each room has a king size bed and can be interconnected to another. In total the rooms and bathrooms are 52˛ metres and have a terrace with views of the hotel garden. The guest rooms have raised numbering but no special adaptations have been made to the bedroom. The bathroom has been equipped with a roll in rain shower and free standing shower chair but no grab rails are present here. There is one grab rail next to the lavatory and a small grab rail beside the bath which has a wide lip around the edge. The single vanity basin unit is recessed which limits the free standing space below. There is a telephone within the bathroom which connects to Reception.
Restaurants & Catering
The Atrium, Blue Orange, Hunters Room & Grill and the Spice Emporium are situated either on the ground floor or the 1st floor of the hotel and can be reached by lift. These restaurants have a mix of free standing and bench style seating with free standing furniture. Oeno Wine Bar and Senyar both have seating downstairs with additional seating up a twisting staircase. Bussola situated in the gardens is reached down three steps from the hotel and then access to the restaurant and terrace area is via a ramp, the upper deck is up a flight of stairs. The menus in each restaurant state whether dishes contain pork, nuts and alcohol, guests with other dietary requirements should enquire if dishes are suitable at the time of ordering.
Recreation Facilities
The gym and Heavenly Spa by Westin are situated on the 2nd floor of the hotel and are reached by lifts. Both share the same changing facility which has a number of twists and turns. The treatment rooms each have wide roll in showers with a small basin along one wall. The Jacuzzi is up four steps with a rail at the top. To access the Mina Seyahi Resort facilities at the rear of the hotel there are three steps. The hotel is presently looking at suitable measures to overcome this. There are many paths and ramps within the resort which connect to Le Méridien Mina Seyahi. The Lap Pool at The Westin has two forms of entrance, to one side of the pool there are steps with a rail while the other side of the pool has gentle steps for entry. The meandering pool has traditional pool ladders.
Visual & Hearing Aids
Each guest room within the hotel has slightly raised numbers; the lift buttons are also slightly raised. The size of the print on menus vary. Assistance Dogs are welcome but guests who travel with these should notify the hotel of their intentions at the time of booking.
Staff Assistance
Staff are trained in first aid and are on hand to give assistance when necessary although they are not fully trained in certain aspects of care. The hotel has its own wheelchair for use in certain circumstances and a defibrillator.
Cranley Comment
The two specially adapted Deluxe sea view guest rooms at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina are on the larger side for a standard room. Each has the additional benefit of a terrace which overlooks the garden and sea beyond. There are limited grab rails in the bathroom which has a wheel in shower and a bath. Not all areas in each restaurant are accessible without the use of stairs. To the rear of the hotel there are three steps that lead to the Mina Seyahi Beach Resort. The hotel is aware that these steps may cause a problem to some guests who are physically challenged and are looking into measures to improve this. There are a series of paths and ramps throughout the resort which connect to Le Méridien Mina Seyahi hotel and lead to all pools and the beach. Lift buttons and the room numbers are raised, those who travel with registered Assistance Dogs should notify The Westin Mina Seyahi hotel at the time of booking their room.

The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina has extensive energy saving, water saving, recycling and environmentally friendly and pollution policies in place. Low wattage and voltage, fluorescent an LED’s are in place both internally and externally with computer aided systems that switch to low energy modus after hours. Guest rooms are key card operated with energy saving light switches and when balcony doors are left open the air conditioning is also programmed to switch off. BMS systems control chiller temperatures, lifts and booster pumps and sense low utilisation. Recycling of paper, glass and cooking oils is in place both front and back of house and staff computers have low power consumption screens which switch to low energy mode when not in use. The resorts golf carts are powered by electricity reducing carbon emissions. There is an on-site STP/Effluent plant which partially clarifies waste water so that it is suitable for irrigation purposes and the resorts swimming pools use an eco effective 'Salt Electrolysis' system minimizing the use of chlorine. With an on- going environmental program, the hotel is currently looking at other eco improvements including the advantages of utilizing solar power as an abundant energy source.
