Opened in 1993 and extensively re-modelled in 2005, the course is set next to Dubai Creek, close to the city centre and Dubai International Airport. The championship course was re-designed by Thomas Bjorn and is set in undulating fairways lined with palms, attractive water hazards and shrubbery that give it a tropical and secluded feel despite being close to the city centre. The complex also features a nine hole floodlit par-three course. The course was voted in November 2005 as one of the top 100 world courses to play and hosted the Dubai Desert Classic in 1999 and 2000.

Special Needs
Communal Areas
The entrance and lobby area to the Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai is all on one level, there is an adapted handicapped lavatory facility along the corridor between the Reception and the conference centre which has a wide entrance with grab rail and accessible low level basin. The restaurants are generally on 2 levels with one or two shallow steps to the raised area. The Rooftop terrace can only be accessed by a flight of 12 steps.
Rooms & Bathrooms
There is one specially adapted Superior Guest Room at the Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai. The entrance door to the guest room is no wider than other guest room doors but is slightly larger than a standard door and it has a low level spy hole. The wider bathroom door opens into the hall and has 1 of the 3 bathroom grab rails on it. To the left of the bathroom is a roll-in shower with shower seat, hand held shower and grab rail and to the right a low level basin with free space under and further grab rail and lavatory. The wardrobe clothes rail is of a lower height and the hotel can provide bed risers if requested. No other provisions have been made in the bedrooms for guests with special needs.
Restaurants & Catering
The menus at the Mövenpick Hotel display nut, vegetarian and pork dishes, further dietary needs should be expressed at the time of booking although the hotel is happy to alter some dishes to requirements. The restaurants are either on one or two levels however there are 12 steps to the rooftop terrace.
Recreation Facilities
The entrance to the Rooftop pool and terrace area may be physically challenging for some guests as there is a flight of 12 steps in total with small level areas in between. The pool itself has ladders for entry and 4 stair/steps that lead into the shallow end of the pool. There are outdoor showers, the indoor showers and locker rooms are down 8 steps. No grab rails are obvious in either areas. The gym is presently located on the first floor and has a standard entrance with separate small cloakroom.
Visual & Hearing Aids
No special induction loop or hearing or visual aids are in place at the hotel. The hotel will print larger font menus if requested. 'Assistance Dogs' are welcome, guests should notify the hotel prior to their arrival.
Cranley Comment
The Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai has 1 specially adapted bathroom for a Superior Guest Room and a cloakroom for the handicapped a short distance from the lobby area on the ground floor of the hotel. With the exception of the Rooftop, the restaurant and bar areas are on two levels with only 1 or 2 steps and would be able to accommodate guests who have limited mobility on the lower levels. The rooftop terrace can only be accessed by a flight of 12 steps. Braille is not available in either the lifts or the guest room corridors and there are no induction loop systems in place. Guests wishing to bring 'Assistance Dogs' should notify the hotel prior to arrival.

Cranley Comment
The Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai has a number of environmental policies in place and is continuously looking for more ways to help improve its standards in this area and to reduce energy and water consumption by innovative ways, including lowering energy expenditure by using Energy Saving Modules for chillers, which are currently under study. Currently the Hotels Energy Saving committee meets regularly and a daily energy audit is carried out, external Environmental Audits are also carried out. The lights in public areas, cloakrooms and halls are fitted with sensors that turn off or down when no movement is detected, Guest bedrooms are also fitted with energy saving light switches and light bulbs. The condensation water from the hotel air-conditioning is recycled as well as cans, paper, glass and cooking oil. The hotel actively contributes to CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions schemes for staff travel and has a fleet of small limos in a further attempt to reduce its carbon footprint.
