The Grosvenor House is an iconic 45 storey hotel located in Dubai Marina. It has good connections to the Internet and Media cities as well as the commercial area of Jebel Ali. The hotel has a choice of luxury room options ranging from Deluxe Rooms to three bedroom Duplex Apartments. All rooms are equipped with 42 inch plasma TV screens and have luxury bathrooms with separate rain showers. There is a choice of nine restaurants including Sloanes, an all day International restaurant, Indego Indian restaurant boasting a Michelin star chef and the world famous Buddha Bar with chefs trained in Paris. Casual dining options include the Lobby Lounge, Deli Cafe, Leaves and the Retreat Health Bar. It has three bars including Bar 44 a champagne bar on the 44th floor, Gallery Cocktail Bar is the main lounge bar and Retreat Pool Bar. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, a comprehensive gym and Spa. For business it has a dedicated Business and Conference Centre. Guests also have complimentary access to Le Royal Meridien which is located 200 metres away and has a private beach, various pools, large gardens, water and land sports.

The hotel is located in the Marina area of Dubai. The hotel is well located for business travellers with the Internet and Media cities nearby and the Jebel Ali Freezone a short drive away. The Mall of the Emirates is a short 15 minute shuttle bus or taxi ride away. The Dubai World Trade Centre is fifteen kilometres away and Dubai International Airport 28 kilometres with an approximate driving time of thirty five minutes. Leisure guests can take the opportunity of access to the beach and water sports facilities at Le Royal Meridien, which is only about 1km away by shuttle bus.

Layout Description

The Grosvenor House has no grounds and you approach via a dedicated drive with a drop off area in front and valet parking underneath the hotel. Guests enter at ground floor level where there is a concierge desk. Stairs or a lift lead to the first floor lobby level which has the main reception, Lobby Lounge, shopping arcade and Deli Café. On the mezzanine level is the Business Centre, Sloane’s restaurant, Leaves Tea Lounge and the Gallery Bar. The guest rooms are located on the 1st to 43rd floors with the Spa and rooftop pool located on the fourth floor. 44th Bar and the Grosvenor Lounge are both on the 44th Floor. The hotel is basically square shaped with an irregular outer edge, and all guest rooms face the sea with the apartments facing the marina.

The impressive lobby area is stylishly decorated and furnished with marble flooring and pillars with a high atrium overlooking the lounge area. The lobby design highlight is the dazzling display of over 1000 red roses which is its centrepiece. Guest relations are located near the top of the escalator from the street entrance and the reception desk is located straight ahead. The Lobby Lounge is opposite the reception desk and has comfortable seating for guests to relax, and just beyond it are Indigo and Ottomans Restaurants. The arcade of shops is to the right of the lobby and includes the Deli Cafe.

The Grosvenor House has a good range of shops. The Deli Café has all the basic amenities for guests staying in apartments. The Arcade shops are located on the lobby level in opulent surroundings with marble flooring, high ceilings and background music.The other shops are located outside around the perimeter of the hotel. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle bus service to the Gold and Diamond Market, Wafi City, Mall of the Emirates, Mercato Mall and Ibn Battuta Mall between them providing a huge range of international stores and Arabic speciality shops.

Complimentary airport transfers are available for Grosvenor Lounge guests. All rooms are equipped with 42 inch plasma screens and DVD players and have luxury bathrooms with separate rain showers. Each room type has a personal butler to assist guests with everything from unpacking to tour bookings. The Apartments have their own dedicated entrance and guest relations, although Apartment guests may use the main entrance if they prefer.

Deluxe Suites are located in corner positions one on each floor and have more space than Deluxe rooms but no balcony. They are decorated in a stylish contemporary design but with an Arabic influence. All have high ceilings, quality striped carpeting throughout and are furnished in dark woods with tan coloured soft furnishings, finished off with plenty of modern art and fresh flowers. They have the added facilities of a separate lounge, dining table, WC and pantry area with sink and fridge. Guests enter the suite into an entrance lobby that also houses the wardrobes with the WC and lounge located off the lobby. Premier Rooms are larger than Deluxe Rooms and guests have a choice between two configurations and sizes. The smaller Premier Room has a balcony and a larger than average bathroom with similar bedroom furniture as the Deluxe Room such as an armchair and footrest. The larger Premier Room does not have a balcony as it has been incorporated into the room, which is therefore more spacious with a ‘lounge area’ furnished with a two seat sofa and two armchairs. The bathroom is of a similar size to the Deluxe Room’s bathroom. Both configurations of the Premier Rooms however have a dressing area and guests staying in Premier Rooms enjoy Club facilities and services. The Grosvenor Suite is a luxury one bedroom apartment on the 43rd floor, giving it spectacular views over the Arabian Gulf and Palm Island. The Suite is located over two floors with a spiral glass staircase located in the hallway. On the lower floor is a reception hall, WC, fully fitted kitchen and lounge dining area, whilst the luxury bedroom and bathroom are situated on the first floor. Both floors have a balcony/terrace. As one would expect, the Suite is decorated to a very high specification with several Arabian artworks and antiques. It has wood parquet flooring and the lounge dining room is furnished with a glass dining table with seating for eight and two three seat sofas. Guests staying in the Grosvenor Suite have use of Grosvenor Club facilities and services.

Grosvenor House offers guests a choice of several fine dining and informal restaurants covering cuisine from India, Turkey, England, France and Asia as well as an all day International restaurant, Sloanes. The Indego Indian restaurant boasts a Michelin chef Vineet Bhatia, whilst the Mezzanine’s chef was the Personal chef to Prince Charles for a number of years. The hotel's flagship Restaurant is the world famous Buddha Bar with chefs trained in Paris to ensure an authentic recreation of the original venue. There are casual dining options at the Lobby Lounge, Deli Café and Leaves as well as health food snacks at the Retreat Health Bar. For guests requiring even greater choice there is the option of dining at any of the ten Restaurants at sister hotel Le Royal Meridien.

Indego is a modern Indian restaurant located off the hotel Lobby area. It is decorated in art déco style with a show kitchen and has a circular lobby with seating where guests are welcomed to the restaurant. Guests are led to their tables on the Mezzanine level where they can be seated either inside or outside on the terrace. The restaurant features cuisine from its Michelin chef Vineet Bhatia, whose influences are based on the traditions of Indian life and family. He was the first Indian chef to receive a Michelin star in 102 years when he was awarded it in 2001.

The restaurant boasts exemplary British credentials: Mezzanine’s chef patron, Gary Robinson, spent seven years as personal chef to Prince Charles. The restaurant is located on the mezzanine level and is decorated in an eccentric modern style with large glass screen walls, large red vases and antique white cabinets encased in glass. The menu mixes British cuisine with French flair and has a number of traditional dishes with a stylish interpretation, specialising in fish dishes. The restaurant has live music to add to the ambience and there is a private dining room available.

Ottomans is an authentic and stylish Turkish restaurant which is located on the ground floor just beyond the Lobby lounge. The entrance has a fountain and is lit by candles, from where guests are led into an old Turkish style café for pre dinner drinks in a relaxed but stylish environment. The restaurant has seating inside with comfortable striped chairs, some set in secluded alcoves for groups wanting more private dining. There is an option of dining on a terrace overlooking the marina where there is also a small bar. Ottoman gastronomy is a major feature of the menu and specials include Seafood Layered Pastries, Turkish Bouillabaisse and Pan Roasted Boneless quail. The restaurant has live entertainment nightly with Turkish musicians and also offers shisha pipes on the terrace in the evening.

Sloanes is an international restaurant located on the mezzanine level overlooking the lobby lounge. It has a contemporary design with seating inside as well as outside on a terrace overlooking the marina. The restaurant is the main breakfast location for hotel guests, offering a substantial buffet. At lunch and dinner there are several cooking stations with Arabic, Italian, Indian and English roast themes. On Fridays the restaurant offers a speciality brunch.

This 'entertainment' venue combines rich décor with Asian fusion-style cuisine. From the striking dragon mosaic at the private entrance to the dramatic staircase leading up to the mezzanine floor, the décor carries the signature of Buddha Bar Paris. Vaulted ceilings in the main area are complemented by themed dining areas and bars with features such as a sushi bar, tatami seating and sunken private lounges. A four-metre statue marks the entrance and the floor-to-ceiling windows and terrace offer clear views of the Dubai Marina. The executive chef Patrick Lannes is quoted: 'The place, name and ambience converge with the essence of Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese flavours and seasonal ingredients of Arabia. Our chefs trained at the original Buddha Bar in Paris to infuse the highest standards with their own creative influences from Dubai.'

The Deli Café is located off the hotel Lobby at the far end of the Arcade which has many of the hotel’s boutiques. It has a circular bar with barstool seating as well as leather arm chairs set around low tables. The setting is modern and stylish with wood and marble flooring, high ceilings and background music. The menu has a choice of pastries, sandwiches, local favourites and fresh daily sweets and savouries.

The lobby lounge is set within a two floor high atrium next to the main reception. It is stylishly decorated with sofas and coffee tables set on marble flooring and carpets. The lighting is subdued while background music or the resident string quartet creates a tranquil environment. Specialising in the most English of traditions Leaves is a refined tea lounge set on the mezzanine level of the hotel. It has a central bar area with lounge seating either side as well as outside on a terrace overlooking the marina. The room is decorated in an Asian style with sofas and armchairs set around wood coffee tables. The Tea house serves a range of premium hot and cold teas and a wide range of coffees. Located in the Spa complex on the fourth floor level, Retreat Health Bar is a well laid out relaxation area overlooking the terrace and outdoor pool. It has bar stools next to a small bar area, low comfortable armchairs and a selection of newspapers and magazines are available for guest's enjoyment. It has a modern design with part tiled part wood flooring and exposed timber in the low ceiling. Retreat Health Bar serves a range of low calorie snacks, health foods and juices as well as speciality teas and coffees.

Bar 44 is a very stylish cocktail bar located on the top floor with unsurpassed views over Dubai Marina and the Jumeirah coast line to Palm Island. The lounge area has a circular bar surrounded by bar stools, but there is more comfortable seating in neighbouring lounge areas. Bar 44 is decorated in a Manhattan contemporary deco style with black carpeting with white circular patterns and lots of clean black and white features. It is renowned for its extensive range of champagnes. A pianist and singer play most nights adding to the nightclub ambience.

The hotel is geared towards the business traveller but has a number of facilities for children including children's meal options in the restaurants and a smaller paddling pool next to the main pool. Guests also have use of all the children’s facilities at Le Royal Meridien including the Penguin Club which is open from 10:30 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00 and located near its lower pool, set on sand with an enclosed grass area. The Penguin Club runs organised programs such as clay magic, funky mask making, scavenger hunt, fun with flowers, flag making, sand castle competitions and shell painting. The Grosvenor House has little formal entertainment; the most popular nightime venue is Bar44 which has a pianist and singer most nights. It is a bustling business hotel but its sister resort hotel Le Meridien Royal has a wide range of live entertainment nightly. Guests of the Grosvenor House can enjoy this entertainment by taking the Shuttle service which operates every 15 minutes from 07:00 to 02:00 hours and takes about 5 minutes.

The pool is located on the fourth floor and is incorporated within the Retreat Spa and Health Club. The pool is large with an irregular curved shape. On one side is a wall with cascading waterfalls and on the other side is the pool patio with high quality whicker sun beds and parasols. Further back from the pool is the Retreat Pool Bar which is set under an ornate dark wood gazebo with wicker tables and chairs around the bar and under matching wood gazebos set on a wood deck. The pool area overlooks both the marina and the gulf.

Description

Opened in 1993 and extensively re-modelled in 2005, the course is set next to Dubai Creek, close to the city centre and Dubai International Airport. The championship course was re-designed by Thomas Bjorn and is set in undulating fairways lined with palms, attractive water hazards and shrubbery that give it a tropical and secluded feel despite being close to the city centre. The complex also features a nine hole floodlit par-three course. The course was voted in November 2005 as one of the top 100 world courses to play and hosted the Dubai Desert Classic in 1999 and 2000.

Emirates Golf Club

Description

This was the first grass course in the Gulf region when it opened in 1988. The club features two championship courses; the Majlis and the Wadi. The Majlis was the original course and was designed by Florida based designer Karl Litten. The Wadi opened in 1996 and was re-designed in 2007 by Nick Faldo. Despite a number of new courses, it still ranks as one of the best in Dubai. It has hosted the Dubai Desert Classic fifteen times for the last six years in succession.

Montgomerie Dubai

Description

Covering more than 265 acres of landscaped turf, gardens and lakes, this spectacular golf course provides the player with undulating "links land" style fairways which challenge and intrigue all levels of player. Placement of the drive to the generous fairways remains the cornerstone of any good round. The flat landing area of each fairway can be challenging to find, but a rewarding adventure. With 14 lakes and 81 bunkers, The Montgomerie Dubai, the first and only example of the association between golfing great Colin Montgomerie and Desmond Muirhead, adds a distinctive variety to the golfing landscape of the region.

One of the signature holes is the par 5 fourth, dubbed the Snake hole for its saddleback fairway which doglegs towards the green, with 2 bunkers behind forming the eyes of the snake. Further on, the par 5 ninth, with water down the left, is a tough finish to the opening half. The par 3 thirteenth, a hole designed in the shape of the UAE, boasts a 360 degree teeing area around an island fairway and green, allowing for a completely different golf hole to be played every time. However, it is the par 5 eighteenth that offers a more classic test. At 656 yards it is a monster and, with water protecting the front of the green, it defies even the best player to hit the green in two.

The Spa is located on the fourth floor and incorporates the Gym, 1847 Men’s Grooming Lounge, Jet Set Ladies Hair Salon and the N Bar Nail Salon. The Spa offers guests a choice of treatments for ladies and gentlemen and is set in a typically serene environment. There are a total of six treatment rooms of which five are reserved for ladies and one for gentlemen. The ladies treatment rooms include a two-person room. Within the Spa is a distinctive grooming lounge for men called 1847 which is open 09:00 to 22:00 daily which offers manicures, pedicures and traditional shaves. The team ensures compliance with the hotel's policies which include the separation of waste into its recyclable components.
