Water Saving
Cranley Comment
The Arabian Park Hotel won the DEWA Award for Water and Electricity Consumption 2009 and is viewed as one of Dubai's greenest hotels. The award, from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recognizes the hotel's 'outstanding efforts' in reducing its environmental impact. Environmentally-friendly practices adopted by the hotel include installing flow reducers on all taps, which have reduced the amount of water they use by up to 30%. Timers have also been installed on all lights, and an underground irrigation system in the garden areas ensures that no irrigation water is lost through evaporation. Guests are also encouraged to consider using the same towels for more than one day.

All hotel staff have undergone extensive training to increase awareness of preserving the environment, and to highlight the importance of carefully controlling the electricity and water consumption in all areas of the hotel.

Paper is recycled back of house, as are bottles and plastics. There are energy saving light bulbs in public areas and guest corridor lights are dimmed after 22:00 without any obvious signs of causing any hindrance to guests.

The hotel chef also grows his own seasonal crops at the back of the hotel grounds with fresh herbs and vegetables including basil, eggplant, coriander, rosemary, mint and tomatoes which regularly feature in house salads.
