Le Royal Meridien Hotel is located in Abu Dhabi city centre near to the Corniche, its location makes it a good base for both business and leisure travellers. Abu Dhabi’s beach area is close by and the cities golf courses are a twenty minute drive away whilst the main commercial area where all the major companies are based in a short walk away. The hotel has a range of room types located in the two towers and executive facilities including a lounge. In addition there are numerous award winning restaurants covering International, Italian, Asian, Indian and Asian Fusion foods. The hotel also has its own boat The Shuja which guests can enjoy for dinner cruises or use for meetings and conferences. For entertainment in the evening there are several bars including an Irish pub, cocktail bar and a lounge style bar. The hotel also has its own nightclub located in one of the towers and a Jazz Club/Restaurant with a live band and DJ. For leisure there is a temperature controlled outdoor pool and next to it is a small toddler’s pool. Inside next to the gym is an additional pool. The gym is adequate for the size of the hotel but there is also a larger gym and two squash courts at a hotel next to the Le Royal Meridien which guests have complimentary use of. Lastly for business travellers there is a fully equipped business centre as well as a number of meeting and function rooms that can accommodate most events.

Le Royal Meridien is located in downtown Abu Dhabi, close to the business and banking district with several international company headquarters located close by. It is only a five minute drive away from Abu Dhabi Shopping Mall, a fifteen minute drive from the Abu Dhabi International Exhibitions Centre and thirty two kilometres from Abu Dhabi International Airport. For guests that want to venture to Dubai the Jumeirah area is approximately seventy five minutes away whilst Deira is about one hour forty five minutes drive. Le Royal Meridien is also just five minutes away from two public beaches.

Layout Description
The hotel consists of an entrance lobby which also houses several of the restaurants and two towers; the royal and deluxe which house the guest rooms, night club, health club and restaurant. At the rear of the hotel is the pool and next to the pool is the Zari Zardozi Indian restaurant and P.J. O’Reilly’s Irish Pub. The meeting and conference rooms are located on the ground floor of the Royal Tower and on the second floor of the Deluxe Tower. The hotel effectively surrounds the pool on three sides which give it a courtyard style feel.

The hotel lobby is at the front of the hotel and is two floors high giving a feeling of space. At the rear of the lobby is the Palm Lobby lounge which overlooks the pool and to the left of the lobby is the L'Opera Restaurant. The font desk has three manned desks to check guests in and out and opposite them is a guest relations desk. The concierge is located on the left side of the entrance. Overall the lobby is decorated in a contemporary design with ample natural daylight.

The Le Royal Meridien in Abu Dhabi has several different room types spread across two towers. The original accommodation was in the Deluxe Tower that is 31 stories high and has rooms on floors six to twenty five and a new extension was added in 2004 which is known as the Royal Tower with seven floors. The rooms have views of the City or distant sea views as the hotel is about half a mile from the sea. The hotels nightclub is located on the fourth floor of the Deluxe Tower and whilst sound insulated inevitably some noise will permeate to the lower guest floors. Whilst all Tower Rooms have sea views the lower floors will be partly restricted so for the best views request a room on a higher floors.

The Classic Rooms are located in the deluxe tower and come with either king beds or twin single beds and can have either a city or sea view. The rooms are decorated in a contemporary style with dark wood furniture, pale yellow walls and beige/gold drapes. The bathroom is decorated in a neutral style with beige tiling and marble effect counters with white sanitary wear. The room itself at 34 sqm has ample space which allows for an armchair with footrest with a coffee table to sit at. In the corner of the room is a working desk with high speed internet connection.

Being in the Royal Tower the rooms have a newer feel but are decorated in the same contemporary style and have the same dark wood furniture as the Classic Room. The Junior Suites are a one room suite with the bedroom and lounge area separated by a floor to ceiling screen that is half solid and half glass. The room comes with a lounge area with white two seater sofa, an armchair and coffee table as well as a small kitchenette with sink but no cooking facilities. The room itself is decorated in a modern/contemporary style with cream sofas and white bed linen and pastel coloured walls. The furniture is the same dark wood as in the other room types.

The Executive Suites are similar to the Junior Suite in that they are a one room suite but because of the room’s location in the corner of the building they have a bedroom that is entered via a passageway that gives the feel of it being a separate room. The Executive Suites also benefit from having aspects in two directions and across the lounge and bedroom areas are large panoramic windows looking over the coastline. This room type also benefits from being larger which allows for a more spacious bedroom and lounge. The suite is decorated in a similar modern/contemporary style as the Junior Suite.

The Royal Club Suites are located in the Royal Tower and principle benefits are that they have a separate bedroom as well as a dinning table for two persons. On entering the room there is a small entrance hallway off which is the kitchenette and leads into the lounge. The bedroom is off the lounge and features an en-suite bathroom. The room is decorated in a more modern style with a wood floor in the lounge and carpets in the bedroom. The en-suite bathroom has “trendy” features including a free standing bath and rain shower. Guests should note that the suites on the lower floors have more a pool view as opposed to the described sea view.

They are decorated in a lavish style with numerous pieces of furniture and have a more classical English style than the rest of the room types. Each of the bedrooms has its own en-suite bathroom with the master bedroom also having a separate shower. The lounge is spacious and has two three seater sofas as well as a desk and dinning table for four persons.

Al Fanar is the hotels award winning restaurant having won Time Out's Best International restaurant in Abu Dhabi in 2006 and was also highly commended as a romantic location. Al Fanar means lighthouse in Arabic and takes its name from the fact that the restaurant is a revolving restaurant located at the top on the 26th floor giving it spectacular views of the city and Corniche. The restaurant is a fine dining restaurant serving a range of modern European dishes and has a contemporary interior with floor to ceiling windows to maximise the vista. For entertainment there is a live band/singer performing each evening.

L’Opera is the hotels main breakfast location and its international restaurant. It is located on the ground floor overlooking the lobby and the pool terrace. The restaurant serves an al a carte menu and a range of buffets and lunch and evening meal times. The restaurant is decorated in a contemporary style with neutral colours and tiled floors. The restaurant has regular theme nights which include Oriental on a Saturday, Asian on a Tuesday and Seafood on a Thursday. There is no live entertainment but background music is played for added ambiance.

Soba is an intimate Far Eastern Asian Restaurant/Noodle Bar. It is located on the ground floor of the hotel overlooking the front of the hotel and the city streets. It serves a range of dishes including Nigiri sushi, Tempura, noodles and at the time of the review had a Kobe beef promotion. The restaurant itself is a modern design with a half moon shaped bar and the show kitchen slightly elevated at one end of the restaurant. The restaurant won the Time Out Best Japanese restaurant in Abu Dhabi in 2006.

The Amalfi is located on the ground floor of the hotel and overlooks the gardens and the pool terrace. It is a modern as opposed to a traditional Italian designed restaurant serving a range of classic Italian dishes prepared by the Italian chef. As well as dining inside in the air conditioned environment there is also seating on a terrace overlooking the pool and another terrace overlooking the gardens. For privacy there is also a private dining room. The pizzas are prepared from a show kitchen with a wood burning pizza oven. The restaurant won the What's On favourite Italian restaurant in 2006.

The restaurant is relatively small ensuring an intimate environment. Ambiance is added to with background music. Above the restaurant is the Z’Dozi Lounge where guests can relax at before or after dining and on the top floor is the Zardozi Hukka where guests can smoke shisha whilst dining from the Zari Zardozi menu.

Oceans is a bar/restaurant with equal emphasis on each aspect and is located on the mezzanine level overlooking the lobby and pool terrace. Oceans has a light nautical theme hence its name and on one side is the bar with loud music playing and on the other side and outside on the terrace overlooking the pool is the restaurant. The atmosphere is sultry with the lights dimmed down and the music playing. The menu has a range of dishes which include a wide vegetarian selection as well as “Pasta and Asian” selections, steaks and salads. On the terrace shisha smoking is available.

P.J. O Reilly’s is an Irish themed sports bar located next to the pool. The pub is set on two floors with a bar on the ground floor with a DJ playing the latest sounds and a number of large screens playing global sporting events. Upstairs is a quieter area of the pub with tables and chairs for dining at from the typical pub style menu. Also upstairs is a pool table and more television screens. There is also outside dining on the ground floor and first floor overlooking the pool.

The Le Royal Meridien is principally a business orientated hotel but it does cater for children with a toddler's pool and small play area next to the pool. Nearby to the hotel are additional playgrounds for younger children as well as the public beaches.
Entertainment
  Evening Activities  
Illusions Illusions is the hotels nightclub which is located on the fourth floor of the tower. It is open Friday to Thursday's from 21.00 to 02.30 and stays open to 03.30 on Friday's. The club is intimate with a circular bar at one end and the dance floor at the far side. The club has a different theme night each evening.
Sax Sax is a Jazz bar/restaurant/club. It is open daily from 19.00 to 02.30 and 03.30 on Thursday and Fridays. The club has a restaurant serving an international al a carte menu that seats 48 persons and in front of the stage is a circular seating area. There is a Jazz band every evening that play from 20.45 to 00.00 and a DJ then takes over until closing time. The setting is sophisticated with white seats and black polished marble flooring.
Shuja Dinner Cruises Shuja is the hotels private yacht which operates dinner cruses each evening departing at 20.30. It has a seafood buffet with a small selection of non-seafood dishes as well.
Z'dozi Lounge The Z'Dozi Lounge is located above the Zari Zardozi Restaurant and is a lounge style bar with a dance area and sofa's spread around. It is open daily from 17.30 to 01.30

The Corniche Beach is a public beach next to the Hilton Hotel. The beach is separated from the Corniche Road by a grass border with a number with trees for natural shading. The beach itself is relatively straight with a gentle incline into the sea which because of the islands offshore is calm. Entry is free.

The Main Pool is located at the rear of the hotel and is flanked on three sides by the hotel giving it a courtyard style feel. The pool is a rectangular shape surrounded by numerous palm trees and other shrub’s to provide some definition and added colour. There is also a small lawn area with children’s play apparatus. For dining Aqua provides drinks and snacks to pool goers either seated at tables next to the pool or delivered to the sun beds.

The Toddlers Pool is located next to the main pool and is ideal for younger children to play in. It also benefits from having a canvas sun canopy over it to provide shade over the entire pool and provide protection for the younger children. The pool shares all the same amenities as the main pool.

The Course at the Abu Dhabi Golf and Equestrian Club is set in the middle of the racing circuit. It is an open course with most of the features being provided by water and the backdrop is impacted by the floodlights for the race course. Potential players should note the course is closed early when there is a race meeting and should therefore check the opening hours before turning up to play.

  Al Ghazal Golf Club
Description
Al Ghazal Golf course opened in 1997 and presents an exciting challenge to the novice and the experienced golfer. Instead of greens there are browns. These are created by compacting rolled and treated sand and, as the players quickly discover, they give an extremely true putting surface. The front nine holes (par 35) are based around an archaeological site which was once an old coast line. The back nine (par 36), which have recently been developed, present a great challenge. Be careful of the water on the 11th! Located next to Abu Dhabi International Airport Al Ghazal Golf Club is regarded as the leading desert golf course in the world. The course is also home to The Abu Dhabi World Sand Golf Championship.
