Cranley Comment
The lobby and Reception area is reached through revolving doors from the raised driveway above the car park. This bright central area is the hub of the hotel with all the hotels facilities leading from here. The long Reception and Concierge desks on the right overlook the wide lobby area with marbled floors and central columns. A baby grand piano sits proudly at the entrance to ‘retrouvé’ a lounge bar. Between this and the two guest lifts there is a smaller seating area at the entrance of ‘west 0º36’ restaurant with soft leather chairs and a discrete computer station. This area, to the side of the lounge also has access to ‘retrouvé’ the hotels main restaurant. Although distinctly separated by pillars, arch ways and plants these three areas bond together by clever use of similar styled furniture, soft furnishings and fittings in creams, reds and browns. Le Club, the hotels fitness facility with indoor pool and the Conference suits lead from Reception to the left and the right respectively. Almost hidden at the entrance to the Royal Pre-Function Bar is an area with public telephones and a vending machine which has an assortment of essential items which one may have forgotten to pack!
Shops & Amenities
Cranley Comment
Between Reception and the Royal, Eton and Windsor conferencing and banqueting rooms there is a discreet corner with a public pay phone and vending machine which stocks all those forgotten things, such as disposable cameras, maps, adaptors, personal items and aspirins. Dotted around the lobby are several display cases with jewellery and designer items, which can be purchased from Reception. ‘retrouvé’ is an informal style restaurant which serves a buffet breakfast and A la carte dishes in the evening from a menu which changes frequently. This modern restaurant is situated to one side of ‘retrouvé bar’ and lounge area and has a bright contemporary feel. Seating is arranged over two levels, and there are heavy grey marble tables with leather tall back chairs, which mix well with the large modern lights hanging from the tall ceilings. The main décor is in shades of brown, and there are double height windows which flow across the ceiling in some creating a conservatory style feature. The menu which changes on a 2 weekly basis features small comments from the Chef on how some of the dishes were created, a nice little quirky touch! An example of dishes are; Grilled Bass with chive butter sauce, marinated tomato salad and shallots as a starter and Pan seared Duck Breast with sweetcorn pancake beetroot and duck jus as a main. Classic dishes and speciality dishes are also available. An extensive children’s menu is available throughout the year, during the summer months depending on occupancy junior guests also have their own special buffet.

Although there is no natural light, mirrors at either end of the restaurant reflect the light and help create a warm welcoming atmosphere. Homemade bread and starters include a mixture of International and Oriental influenced dishes, while as a main course there are steaks from Castlebridge which have been grain fed and aged for 21 days and 25 day aged Hereford T-Bones and Rib Eyes from the local Windsor Estate Royal Farm, all of which are served with contemporary chunky steak knives.   Stoke Poges
Description
As well as being a challenging and demanding course you will find it hard not to be stirred by the exquisite views and landscapes of the Club's championship course known as Stoke Poges. The club's true 27 hole course is made up of the three nine hole courses Colt, Alison and Jackson. The course was designed by Harry Shapland Colt who is arguably the greatest golf course architect in history. He and his partners have certainly had more influence on the game around the world than any other firm of architects. In l908 he was commissioned to create his first unassisted design at Stoke Poges.

Description
Wentworth has three courses. The West is world famous and is home each year to the HSBC World Matchplay and the BMW PGA Championship. The other "original" course is the East and finally the most recent addition is the Edinburgh which opened in the 1990’s. Many golfers visit Wentworth for the West course and very few courses can boast a tournament history on a par with the West course. It hosted the 1953 Ryder Cup and then in 1956 the Canada Cup, the forerunner to today’s World Cup of Golf. It has the distinction of hosting two of golf’s most prestigious championships; the World Matchplay and the PGA Championship. In addition the East course is in most golfers' lists of the top fifty courses in the British Isles. It was the setting for the inaugural Curtis Cup in 1932 and hosted a friendly match in 1926 between two teams from the US and Great Britain and Ireland which was the inspiration for the contest we now know as the Ryder Cup. Lastly the Edinburgh course was opened in more recent times and was designed by coach and former Ryder Cup player and captain John Jacobs in consultation with nine-time major champion Gary Player and the Club’s then professional Bernard Gallacher.

There is one treatment room within Le Club at the Copthorne Hotel Slough Windsor which is managed by Aura Beauty Care. Although small, the treatment room is lit by candles and has a cosy relaxing ambiance. An extensive range of ladies’ and gentlemen’s treatments are available by prior appointment through Le Club Reception, including gift and pamper packages. Due to its location within Le Club guests have easy access to the indoor pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and gym and changing rooms.
Special Needs
Communal Areas
At the entrance to the hotel there are 6 parking spaces reserved for blue badge holders and further spaces within the hotels basement car park, a lift ascends to the hotel lobby from here. There is a specially adapted guest cloakroom close to the Reception and the entrance to the conference area on the ground floor. Four shallow steps separate ‘retrouvé bar' from the lounge bar area these steps can be avoided by using a slope with a slight incline which is to the side of the lobby lounge and next to the ‘west 0º36’ A la carte restaurant.
Rooms & Bathrooms
There is one specially adapted DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) Classic Room at the Copthorne Hotel Slough Windsor, which is situated on the 4th floor of the hotel. The room is halfway along the corridor and the door has raised numbering and a low level spy hole. On entering if a guest leaves the key card in the electronic locking system the door will open automatically. The room is interconnecting with one other and each can be configured as either a double or a twin, which should be specified at time of booking. For ease of access the closet doors have been removed, the rail lowered and the light, climate control switches and fire exit plan are all at waist level. The en-suite bathroom has a wide door which can be opened automatically by the push of a button. The bathroom has a roll-in shower with shower seat, a panic cord and 5 grab rails. The basin has faucet leaver operated taps and is slightly recessed which restricts a small amount of the area below.
Restaurants & Catering
With the exception of the lower section of ‘retrouvé’ restaurant which can only be reached by four descending stairs, all other restaurant and bar areas are accessible to wheelchair users. A side slope with low incline avoids the four steps in the ‘retrouvé bar' area in the lounge. ‘west 0º36’ ‘retrouvé’, and the ‘retrouvé bar’ and lounge each have a free standing tables and chairs. Vegetarian dishes are available and most dishes are GM Free. For those with special dietary requirements or allergies who may wish to know the ingredients within any dish should consult the server. Adaptations or recommendations will be made to suit individual needs where possible.
Recreation Facilities
The entrance to Le Club leads off from the lobby area on the ground floor. It’s Reception, gym and weights area have easy access for guest with mobility restrictions, however the treatment room is very small. To reach the indoor swimming pool, which has a hoist and stairs with a rail for entry to the pool, there is a set of nine stairs. To overcome this difficulty for guests who are physically challenged Le Club has an Evac chair. The sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and changing rooms are also situated on this second level.
Visual & Hearing Aids
There is an Induction Loop system behind Reception which may also be used in the conference suites if required. The lifts have brail and also automated voice alerts for each floor. Some of the menus are in slightly smaller print but the hotel is happy to oblige and enlarge them if required. Assistant Dogs are welcome.
Staff Assistance
Staff on duty are trained in first aid, many have been on courses and are aware of, and will assist guests who have special needs. Although they are not fully trained in certain aspects of special care. The hotel has a wheelchair and there is also an Evac chairs which is also used for the steps in Le Club. In case of an emergency each guest room has a notice to hang outside the door if extra assistance would be required in an evacuation.
Cranley Comment
While Copthorne Hotel Slough Windsor is one of only a few hotels which has a hoist for pool entry, the stairs at Le Club leading to the pool area is probably the main issue at the hotel for guests who are physically challenged. To overcome the problem of these stairs staff are on hand to give assistance and there is also an Evac chair for guests to use to gain access to the second level and pool area of Le Club. There are four stairs leading down to the lower seating area in ‘retrouvé’ while other areas in this restaurant and bar maybe reached by a slope. The bathroom in the specially adapted guest room is well equipped and has a roll-in shower and automatic door entry system. All the banqueting and conference rooms are on the ground floor. Assistance Dogs are welcome.

Cranley Comment
The Copthorne Hotel Slough Windsor has effective environmental policies in place both front and back of house. All paper, glass, plastics and cooking oils are recycled. The guest lift system was upgraded in 2008 and now incorporates energy saving features. In most public areas within the hotel and also in the guest rooms energy saving light bulbs including halogen saving light bulbs are in use. Lighting along the guest floors is turned to low during the middle of the small hours of the night. At the end of each shift staff follow a full shut down procedure for all electrical office equipment and kitchen equipment which is not in use. Light movement sensors have been installed in all office areas, kitchens and also the Housekeeping department. Although there is no air-conditioning within the hotel the Comfort Cooling systems can be altered by guests by three degrees in their individual rooms and suites, this system depending on season is adjusted and monitored by a Building Management System. Recently each member of staff have been asked to think of and try out different ways of saving 1kw each of energy per day, Carbon Trust is working closely with the hotel on this and several other positive projects. The Copthorne Hotel Slough Windsor supports a number of smaller local charities and Make A Wish.
