  Wentworth
Description
Wentworth has three courses. The West is world famous and is home each year to the HSBC World Matchplay and the BMW PGA Championship. The other "original" course is the East and finally the most recent addition is the Edinburgh which opened in the 1990’s. Many golfers visit Wentworth for the West course and very few courses can boast a tournament history on a par with the West course. It hosted the 1953 Ryder Cup and then in 1956 the Canada Cup, the forerunner to today’s World Cup of Golf. It has the distinction of hosting two of golf’s most prestigious championships; the World Matchplay and the PGA Championship. In addition the East course is in most golfers' lists of the top fifty courses in the British Isles. It was the setting for the inaugural Curtis Cup in 1932 and hosted a friendly match in 1926 between two teams from the US and Great Britain and Ireland which was the inspiration for the contest we now know as the Ryder Cup. Lastly the Edinburgh course was opened in more recent times and was designed by coach and former Ryder Cup player and captain John Jacobs in consultation with nine-time major champion Gary Player and the Club’s then professional Bernard Gallacher.

Communal Areas
There are a number of car parking spaces on ground level at the side of the hotel. Mobility impaired guests in a wheelchair have access to the front entrance of the hotel via a pathway next to the car park barrier where there are no steps. Everything on the ground floor is at one level, giving mobility impaired guests ready access to the reception desk, bar, restaurant, business centre and meeting rooms. The restaurant does have a mezzanine level with steps leading up but the other two sections of the restaurant are on one level. Chats bar has two sections with steps leading up to seating areas but mobility impaired guests in a wheelchair can access the bar area and one section of the bar's seating area. There are two disabled toilets on the ground floor and three large lifts with braille provide easy access to all floors.
Rooms & Bathrooms
The hotel has five Deluxe standard adapted bedrooms (two with interconnecting rooms) which have a slightly wider entrance door and low spyholes. The rooms are decorated and furnished in the same manner as the hotel's standard Deluxe rooms but are a little more spacious giving good manoeuvrability for wheelchair users. The entrance hallway is quite small but still large enough for wheelchair manoeuvrability and leads into a reasonable sized bathroom which has a wider door, a lowered sink, toilet and bath. There is a shower over the bath and grab rails in the bath and next to the toilet. Between the toilet and bath is an emergency pull cord. The bedroom has a wardrobe with lower rails and a low laptop safe. There is an emergency pull cord located next to the bed. In the majority of bedrooms throughout the hotel, there are small balconies. Large sliding doors lead out to the balconies but there is a step down and the balcony is not large enough to house a wheelchair.
Restaurants & Catering
Both the restaurant and bar are located on ground floor level with good access for mobility impaired guests. The restaurant does have a mezzanine level with steps leading up but the other two sections of the restaurant are on one level. Chats bar has two sections with steps leading up to seating areas but mobility impaired guests in a wheelchair can access the bar area and one section of the bar's seating area.
Recreation Facilities
The hotel has a leisure club which is located on the lobby level. The reception area is accessible by wheelchair. There are glass doors from the reception area leading through to the swimming pool, sauna and steam room which are all on one level. Whilst the changing room facilities and the gymnasium are both accessed via stairways and are not accessible for mobility impaired guests in a wheelchair, there is a disabled toilet by the leisure club which serves as a changing room. There is a hairdressing salon located in the leisure club reception area which is accessible by wheelchair.
Visual & Hearing Aids
The three lifts contain braille numbers and the hotel has an induction loop system as well as hearing and sight impaired kits.
Cranley Comment
Although the hotel has only five adapted bedrooms, it is reasonably equipped to meet the needs of guests who are mobility, visually or hearing impaired. All ground floor amenities and facilities including meeting venues, business centre, the restaurant and bar, leisure club reception, swimming pool and hairdressers are accessible to wheelchair users. The gym and the changing room areas are not accessible to wheelchair users. The three lifts are of a good size, have braille numbers and give easy access to the other floors and facilities including the meeting rooms on the 1st floor.
