The hotel offers 128 good sized guest rooms and 14 suites, including Penthouse and Presidential suites, all with high speed and wireless internet access. Dining options include the impressive award-winning Quadrato Italian restaurant and Bar Quadrato. The hotel has 24 hour business services, a business centre and four function rooms, including a ballroom. Guests have complimentary use of the adjoining Virgin Active Health Club and Re-Aqua Spa, with its infinity pool on the edge of the Thames. Children are welcomed at the hotel and they have their own special menu, games and DVDs. There is a limited amount of on-site valet parking available.

The Four Seasons Hotel Canary Wharf is located at West India Quay overlooking the River Thames in one of London’s premier business and financial areas at Canary Wharf. Westferry DLR station is five minutes walk away and London City airport is only 10 minutes by car in light traffic. There are a few coffee bars and restaurants within two minutes walk of the hotel and the central Canary Wharf area, with its vast selection of shops, bars and restaurants, can easily be reached on foot in under 10 minutes. The West End of London is just 15 to 20 minutes away by car or public transport.

Layout Description

The hotel is approached via a ramp and a roundabout at Westferry Circus. Guests drive through an arch into the private courtyard at the front of the hotel. The eight storey modern glass fronted building overlooks the Virgin Active Health Club and pool and the River Thames beyond. The hotel's restaurant and bar are to the left from the lobby entrance, whilst the front desk and lifts to guest bedrooms are ahead and to the right. Opposite the hotel entrance are stairs that lead up to the first floor banqueting and conference facilities. The hotel's own gym is on the second floor, although guests also have free access to the adjoining Health Club.

The hotel entrance consists of two sets of double glass doors. The main lobby is marble tiled in white which makes it a very bright entrance; something that is further enhanced by an atrium that rises to the first floor mezzanine level. A staircase leading to the first floor is directly opposite the entrance. The Front desk is across the lobby and to the right of the entrance, whilst the Concierge desk is immediately on the right upon entering the hotel. There are several large potted plants in the lobby area, as well as a good amount of comfortable seating and a large colourful mauve and pink patterned rug, where the area adjoins Bar Quadrato. Guest lifts are to the right past the Front Desk and the Quadrato Restaurant is to the left, immediately past Bar Quadrato.

There are no shops within the hotel, but there is a coffee shop, a sandwich bar, some restaurants and a general store all within a couple of minutes walk. The thriving business and commercial centre of Canary Wharf itself is just 5 minutes walk away, where guests will find many of the major retail shops, bars and restaurants, as well as a number of specialist businesses.

All except the Penthouse and Presidential Suites have the same décor, furnishings and identical bathrooms. The Standard, Superior and Deluxe rooms are exactly the same size and are differentiated only by their location in the hotel, with all Deluxe rooms overlooking the River Thames.

Deluxe rooms are situated on all guest floors from the second floor to the eighth and they offer superb views over the River Thames. The rooms on all floors except the eighth, have bay windows with seats that allow guests to enjoy the outlook. Rooms on the eighth floor have very attractive half moon shaped windows instead. Quadrato Restaurant is located on the lobby level, across the full width of the hotel. Set in three sections, it has floor to ceiling windows at either side, whilst the middle section offers guests the opportunity of watching their food being prepared in the glass partitioned open kitchen. A high ceiling, white pillars and a vibrant maroon and red patterned carpet, gives the restaurant a stylish appearance. The cuisine has a northern Italian theme and the menu features an extensive choice of dishes using freshly prepared ingredients. The weekly seafood buffet is a speciality of the restaurant, whilst the popular Sunday brunch draws in many diners from outside, as well as hotel guests. A pianist performs one night a week and there is also a jazz duo on one evening.

Bar Quatro is located in the centre of the hotel on the lobby level, adjoining the Quadrato Restaurant. It features floor to ceiling windows and overlooks the gardens that offer a view towards the River Thames. The bar is furnished in a modern contemporary style with a number of comfortable armchairs set around small tables. Much of the marble tiled floor is covered by a large patterned rug in pink, mauve and maroon. Bar Quadrato features an extensive range of malt whisky, bourbon and blended whiskies, as well as the usual cocktails, beers and soft drinks. It also offers light meals, salads and sandwiches.

The hotel has good facilities for meetings and functions, with a Ballroom that can hold 200 guests and two other meeting rooms, as well as a Boardroom. All of the function rooms benefit from state of the art technology, have natural daylight and have pre-function areas adjoining them. All of the rooms are also carpeted in a vibrant red/maroon carpet. The first floor Ballroom has its own kitchen attached, whilst the nearby River Room has its own pantry. The City Room and Boardroom are one floor above, on the first floor mezzanine level, where the Business Centre is also situated.

The hotel is very child friendly and can accommodate children with their parents in most room types. There are some nice touches such as child-size bathrobes, complimentary baby’s and children’s amenities, complimentary bedtime milk and cookies and very professional children’s menus in the restaurant as well as for in-room dining. The Sunday brunch features a special low-level table with a children's buffet selection and there is also a play area provided for children at the brunch.

The pool is part of the Re-Aqua Spa facility at the Virgin Active Health Club, which operates independently of the hotel, but guests have free use of the facilities. The indoor heated infinity pool is situated between the hotel and the River Thames in a superb location overlooking the river. It is in a secure stand-alone building that is connected to the health club via an internal underground walkway. The good sized pool offers hotel guests excellent changing and showering facilities as well as other spa facilities and a café.

The gym is located on the second floor and overlooks the front of the hotel with a view towards Canary Wharf. It has floor to ceiling windows on one side, with three mirrored walls that give the impression of space. It has a fairly small range of equipment and unusually for a gym, it has a carpeted floor. One nice touch is a notice saying that the Concierge can provide "Fitness Clothing" for any guests who want to use the gym. Note that although the gym is small, hotel guests have free use of the VIrgin Active Health Club next door.

Cranley Comment

The Re-Aqua Spa is situated within the Virgin Health Club at Canary Riverside, next door to the Four Seasons Hotel, Canary Wharf. Hotel guests enjoy complimentary access to the Health Club and Spa, but all spa treatments are at an additional cost. The spa includes a full range of skin and body therapies, including unique hydrotherapy treatments. A notable feature of the Spa is the 20 metre infinity edge swimming pool, (refer to the Pool Section) which is located in a specially designed glass building with heated lounges and has uninterrupted views of the River Thames.

Special Needs

Communal Areas

Although there is no parking immediately outside the hotel, mobility impaired guests have access to the front entrance, which is at street level. Everything on the ground floor is at one level, giving guests ready access to the Front Desk, bar and restaurant. There are disabled toilets on both the ground floor and first floor where the ballroom is situated. The large lifts provide easy access to all floors.

Rooms & Bathrooms

There are two adapted bedrooms at the hotel, which have low level switches, an additional low level spyhole on the bedroom door and a wardrobe clothing bar with an adjustable height. The bedrooms have good manoeuvrability for wheelchair users and the bathrooms have been fully adapted for mobility impaired guests, with a wider bathroom door. They have a low level washbasin, a run-in shower and grab rails in the shower and bath and around the toilet. There are also emergency cords in the bathroom; one beside the bath and one near to the shower. The two adapted rooms are on different floors and both are situated close to the lifts for ease of evacuation in the event of an emergency.

Restaurants & Catering

With the restaurant and bar being at lobby level, there is good access for mobility impaired guests. Menus with large print can be provided for guests with visual impairment. All dietary requirements can be catered for, ideally with advance notice given.

Recreation Facilities

The hotel has its own gym on the second floor and there is ready access to that for mobility impaired guests. Hotel guests also have use of the Virgin Active Leisure Club next door and the club provides access to all four levels, via both a regular lift and also a hoist lift to the swimming pool level.

Visual & Hearing Aids

The lifts contain braille numbers and large print menus can be provided in the restaurant. For hearing impaired guests, an induction loop is installed at the Front Desk and a vibrating pad can be provided to assist in a fire emergency.

Staff Assistance

Assistance is available for Special Needs guests throughout the hotel. As part of their induction process, all employees are trained to deal with the special requirements of guests who have a physical impairment.

Cranley Comment

Although the hotel has only two adapted bedrooms, it is well-equipped to meet the needs of guests who are mobility, visually or hearing impaired. All of the ground floor amenities and facilities, including the restaurant and bar are readily accessible to wheelchair users. With two good sized lifts, the other floors and facilities in the hotel, including the conference and banqueting areas are also easily reached. Whilst the leisure facilities are in a separate building, the entrance is at the same ground floor level as the hotel and can be reached without ramps or steps.

Cranley Comment

The hotel has a "Green Team" made up of people who are passionate about environmental issues. Hippo bags are installed in all toilet cisterns to reduce the amount of water used when flushing, by about 3 litres per flush. Sensor taps are used in back of house areas to reduce water usage. Timed light switches are used in back of house areas so that lights go off automatically. Paper is recycled and disposable cups have been eliminated from staff areas. The hotel uses local suppliers for goods as much as possible and has bulk deliveries, in order to reduce packaging and to reduce fuel emissions from transportation. Cleaning materials are provided in reusable containers to reduce wastage.
